New Autotrader website is crap!
You may not have seen it yet, but the UK Autotrader website, has undergone somewhat of a redesign!
The site’s navigation and functionality has changed completely, and seems to have gone all web 2.0 overboard. With unnecessary sliders, & drop downs all over the place.
I’m all for the improvement & evolution of websites, but unfortunately I just don’t the new site works well. Its just not as clear and easy to find a car as it was on the old version.
Unfortunately, with online advertising for cars being a complete monopoly ruled by Autotrader, it looks like we have little choice but to put up with it for the time being.
If you do want to try elsewhere to sell your car. I can thoroughly recommend the below sites.
Ebay – www.ebay.co.uk
PistonHeads – www.pistonheads.com
The old autotrader site is still available in the background for a while, so if you want to go back to the perfectly good, old version. Use the below link.

Autotrader was the best ..but now the WORST. I advertised on it for many years and now my worst NIGHTMARE .. they introduce a new site, FULL OF BL**DY ADS. WHICH SLOWS THE WHOLE THING DOWN. Sun life insurance, green flag breakdown [ I might need them soon ! ]. I’m trying to sell my cars with little success [ I am fully aware of the economic climate ...they are obviosly not ]. Even my customers say the website is quote ‘CRAP’, IMPOSSIBLY SLOW, JAMS, JUMPS because of all the rubbish [ ads] being loaded. I also may add that they are tring to pitch the price at £10 per car per week for the trade, Its over £8 now. THE GREED HAS SET IN LIKE A BAD VIRUS, WHO’S RESPONSIBLE ???? The new IT person needs a holiday at beachy head, I’ll pay I promise !! What fools ………….
Thanks for your comments b4mky.
As you say, just a few less Ad’s and the site could be much better.
Its a shame Autotrader got carried away with the web 2.0 technlogy, and were distracted by the opportunity to make a quick buck through advertising, rather than sticking to what they do best.
I’ve also struggled to sell cars through AutoTrader recently, and have found that eBay and Piston Heads are good alternatives.
Likewise, its worth taking a look on specific car forums. e,g If your selling a BMW Z4, post a link in the For Sale section of an owners website, for example http://www.z4-forum.com
Hope this helps, and I hope Autotrader take notice of our comments and make some changes!
If you search for the auto trader on google and then click on ‘buy a used car’, it still comes up the old way….

Couldn’t agree with you more.
Unfortunately competition from e-bay, gumtree and pistonheads has obviously hit their profits hard!
Rather than concentrating on their core business “selling cars!” they obviously decided to supplement their income through advertising revenues, which is a real shame, as it’s come to the detriment of the usability of the site.
AUTOTRADER -BRING BACK THE OLD SITE!
Finally I’ve had enough with the DREADED ‘ AUTOTRADER ‘ , being held to ransom with their extortionate advertising rates. ……. and so I have engaged good old ‘ EBAY MOTORS PRO ‘ , BRILLIANT …… SOLD 5 CARS in 5 weeks … with an average of 16 cars [ 21 on at the moment ]. This is a very easy site to use and I’m sure it will continue to improve. I’m on a free 2 months trial and then £107 + vat per month for 20 units , great value. [ or about £175 for 40 cars etc ], good luck to all, anything to send AUTOTRADER Tits up. Also try ‘CAR PAGES’ , MOTORS .co.uk , V car, etc etc…
