New Salvage Category – Cat U
News Flash – New Salvage Category’s
Received from Blue Cycle Salvage
“You will soon notice Category U vehicles at auction being sold by a private enterprise. A Category U vehicle is a vehicle that is not owned by an insurance company and may have sustained accident damage. As such, the owner of these vehicles is not governed by the ABI categorisation guidelines and it is unlikely the vehicle damages have been reported to the Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud Theft Register (MIAFTR)
As yet I have been unable to find any further clarification on Cat U vehicles however as soon as I do I will be sure to post a response on Wrecks 2 riches.

So what does it mean, can it be driven, if it is not owned by insurance company who has classified it as Cat U and why
Hi Khan,
Being Cat U doesnt necessarily mean its driveable, just thats its not recorded on the HPI register. Typically Cat U cars havent come through insurance companies, but rather via fleets, ex-rentals etc, where companies decide just not to persue via insurance.
Check out my previous post on salvage categories, Cat U is pretty much the same as a cat X vehicle.
